2024 Men’s Metro Championships

This weekend was sort of a mixed bag for the association.

WCMDA nominated 5 teams for the Metros. WCMDA 1 and WCMDA 2 were placed in Division 1, WCMDA 3 were placed in Division 2, WCMDA 4 in Division 3 and WCMDA 5 in Division 4.

WCMDA 2 and 3 did not win a match and finished bottom of their groups. WCMDA 4 won 2 games and WCMDA 5 won 1 game and finished 5th in their groups.

However, WCMDA 1 who were the same team that won the Men’s States Championship 2 weeks prior (Tom Wiley (c), David Platt, Carl Caton, Shane Ashe, Roger Clinch, Howard Jones) repeated the feat and went the whole weekend unbeaten winning gold and making it a rare States and Metros gold double.

Only FDDA 1 team challenged them taking them to 6/5. Howard Jones finished with an 81.23 average, which was the highest of the weekend. David Platt 77.45 (7th), Shane Ashe (8th), Carl Caton (9th), Roger Clinch (11th), Tom Wiley (18th). Howard also had the joint highest finish of the weekend with a 160 peg, sharing that honour with fellow WCMDA player Cos D’Uva.

Congratulations to WCMDA 1 and everyone who played over the weekend.
